UNICEF, through Generation Unlimited (GenU) Youth Challenge, aims to concentrate its efforts on four key strands: identifying solutions; increasing funding; collaborating with diverse partners; and fostering the participation of young people. Ultimately, the success of this project will be based on the scale and depth of improvements in the lives of young people. This Youth Challenge prioritizes mechanisms to include and support young people to lead in identifying the solutions, building the evidence base, implementing solutions, and monitoring and evaluation. It brings together partners at all levels and across all sectors to join in the efforts, lend expertise, innovation and market reach to develop, accelerate and scale-up solutions to support young people everywhere. Adolescents and youth are an integral part of this contest, so that they not only have a greater chance to succeed but can also shape their path to success. The Generation Unlimited Youth Challenge is one of the ways this will be achieved.

The overall goal of the contest is to engage young people around the world in the design of solutions that have the potential to scale and create significant improvements around the areas of secondary-age education, skills development and training or empowerment and participation. Keeping in view the principles of Human Centered Design (HCD), the contest will be designed with and for youth and it seeks to engage marginalized youth, recognizing the insight, experience and talent they can offer. Moreover, scalable entries from the previous MHM Challenge winners will be included in the design thinking process for further refinement of their products. Finally, the contest proactively aims for gender equity and hence the submissions in the local co-creation contest will revolve around Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) theme.

The Youth Challenge is a collective learning journey for everyone. It is an inclusive approach that aims at personal growth and community development. The plan was to deepen youth’s understanding of different aspects of menstruation and the taboos associated with them. Provide a platform to the youth of Pakistan to introduce innovative solutions they see in their communities regarding Menstrual Hygiene Management.
